PEAL training

Girl in swingThe Parents, Early Years and Learning (PEAL) project is funded by the Department for Education and managed jointly by the National Children's Bureau and Parenting UK.

Core partners are the National Childminding Association, the National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

The PEAL project is all about helping practitioners work with parents to help them support their children's learning. The project has a particular focus on working with parents in disadvantaged areas. Childminders work closely with parents and are able to support them on a daily basis.

Qualifications

The PEAL training course forms part of the City & Guilds Level 3 "Working with Parents" award. Participants can gain either an award or a certificate for the full unit (the certificate is the higher level). PEAL unit 16 is called "Working with parents to involve them in their children's early learning" which comprises three out of the seven units needed for the award. Details of the award, but not the certificate, are currently on the City and Guilds website.

You can see examples of good practice as well as a childminders' activity booklet and find out more about the PEAL project at www.peal.org.uk (external link). The latest newsletter is also available to read online.
