Flintshire Flying Start
The Flintshire Children Come First project was established 10
years ago. During the past three years the network has now
become a Flying Start network with an element of development
work.
The service we manage
Flintshire has a Flying Start network offering
childcare placements to children living in Flying Start areas and
community childminding to children across the whole
authority. Referrals to the network come from:
- Flying Start Team
- Health Visitors
- Social Services
- Children’s disability team.
The Flintshire Development worker has a target
to build quality, affordable, diverse and accessible childcare
provision, in the target areas as identified in the Childcare
Sufficiency Assessment. They also provide training for
registration purposes of the CSSIW and deliver training to support
their inspection.
Results
All registered childminders on the Flying
Start network are able to access all Flying Start training
delivered by the local authority team. This gives more
sustainability to the registered childminders and give more parents
the flexibility of continued childcare.
The development work has had a significant
impact on the recruitment of registered childminders in target
areas giving more parents the opportunity of returning to work or
training, helping to reduce poverty within the home
