Ofsted celebrates 10 years
Ofsted took over the inspection and regulation of all registered
childminders and childcare settings 10 years ago this month.
In the years before Ofsted took over, responsibility for
the regulation and inspection of childcare sat with 150 individual
local authorities. With no national set of standards, each local
authority had different standards that they expected providers to
meet. Each also took a different approach to regulation and
inspection.
The National Standards for childminders were introduced at the
same time as the change to Ofsted and a national system
for regulation and inspection for all childcare providers, wherever
they were located, was created.
Over the last 10 years there have been several changes to early
years regulation for childminders, not least the introduction of
the Early Years Foundation Stage. NCMA has worked closely with
Ofsted during this last decade to continually represent the views
and needs of registered childminders and nannies to ensure
their views and needs
are taken into account.
As an NCMA member, you can rest assured that you are part of a
professional organisation with your interests at heart and a voice
at a national
government level. Your membership helps us represent you and your
profession.
