NCMA Networks project

In March 2011, NCMA was successful in its bid for Department for Education funding for the creation and initial development of local peer support networks.

This funding, which is granted until 31 March 2013, is provided through the ‘developing childminder networks’ stream within the Early Years and Childcare theme, with the aim of “improv[ing] choice for parents and support[ing] childminders to increase the quality of their work.”

The grant will be used to create Peer Support - Member Networks for childminders and nannies in every unitary local authority (or equivalent) in England and to support quality improvement.

The aim of the Networks is to enable provision of the following for childminders and nannies:

  • Peer support and advice, to reduce the isolation of their profession and increase childminder sustainability;
  • On-going training and professional development at a time when statutory funded training is reducing;
  • A strong local voice in their community, aiding collaborative service delivery with their local authority and other local providers.

More information about NCMA's network project is available here.
