Childminder numbers rise again
The number of registered childminders in
England has risen for the second consecutive quarter, showing
encouraging signs for the wider sector.
Second quarter figures released by Ofsted show
that the number of registered childminders in England has risen to
57,663, a total increase of 462 when compared to March figures.
"The rise in the number of registered
childminders is very pleasing and builds further on the slight
increase reported in the first quarter," NCMA Chief Executive,
Catherine Farrell, commented.
"We are very encouraged by the results and
whilst early days, it is an indication that the profession is
responding well in this difficult economic climate.
"There is also a continued increase in the
number of registered childminders achieving good or outstanding
Ofsted results, rising to 74% this year. NCMA is encouraged by
these results which are an indication of the growing
professionalism of childminders.
"NCMA is committed to improving opportunities
for professional development and access to business support, to
ensure that childminders can continue to provide high
quality care and learning for children."
