Smokefree
Since 2 April
2007 in Wales and 1 July 2007 in England it has been illegal to
smoke in virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces.
Because childminders and nannies work in domestic premises, the
law may apply differently in some circumstances. NCMA has put
together information about how the smokefree law affects
childminders and nannies.
Please note that providers in England and Wales must have a
no-smoking policy. There is a sample
policy that childminders can adapt to their own settings here.
The no-smoking signage for premises and cars are all available to
download, free of charge, from www.smokefreeengland.co.uk
(external link) or, again, you can design your own signs,
providing they meet the size requirements set out in the same
website.
Potential scam warning
NCMA has been made aware of a company who have stated that
childminders will need a written policy drafted by a trained
professional. They have offered a service costing £99 plus VAT per
childminder to write a policy and give them a booklet and stickers
for the house and car. As above, childminders can write their own
policies and download signage free of charge.
