Volunteering

NCMA was started by a small group of volunteers in 1977. Since
then, the organisation has grown and now has over 35,000
members.
Volunteers still govern the association and guide its work
through the
National Policy Forum.
There are many ways you can be involved as a
volunteer. If you are an NCMA member who wants to develop new
skills or become more involved with our work why not consider:
- Being part of a regional organising
committee
- Becoming an NPF member
- Becoming an NCMA Local facilitator in
your local authority area
- Joining an NCMA Local group to offer
information, friendship and peer support to other childminders and
nannies
- Being a positive ambassador for NCMA
online or at meetings
- Taking part in one off events such as
Ofsted pilot inspections, product testing, visits to the Department
for Education or other opportunities that become available.
- Contributing to articles on the
website and on NCMA Local
- Reviewing a book for Who Minds?
- Inviting an MP to visit your home or
childminding group to raise Government awareness of childminders
(in conjunction with our policy team)
- Putting forward a resolution at
National Conference on an issue that you feel affects childminders
across England and Wales
- Getting involved in our Individual
Inspection Matters Campaign
- Organise an event to celebrate
National Childminding Week and share your ideas with others on the
website and on NCMA local.
- Tweeting positive messages about
childminding and NCMA on Twitter
Watch out for volunteer requests in
e-newsletters, Who Minds? and NCMA Local or contact sarah.edwards@ncma.org.uk to
find out what volunteer roles are currently available.
