Professional Standards

Stuart TurnerLed by Stuart Turner, pictured left, Professional Standards is charged with keeping NCMA and its members at the cutting edge of policy, standards, provision and quality for the home-based childcare sector.

With a team of 15 people, the department is in the process of investigating and mapping the professional standards that will be necessary in a changing regulatory and statutory environment.

External Relations

External Relations ensures NCMA’s policy positions on the issues that matter to our members are based on robust evidence and are informed by members’ views. They ensure these policy positions are communicated to key decision makers (such as government and regulators) across England and Wales, with the aim of ensuring that any law, regulation or guidance on the delivery or childcare or early years services supports the sustained delivery of high-quality, home-based childcare.

They also work across NCMA to ensure intelligence at a national, regional and local level feeds into NCMA strategy. Campaigns, consultations, lobbying, policy development, research and stakeholder relations are all managed by External Relations

Standards, Development and Quality

Standards, Development and Quality drive our standards and continuous professional development (CPD) strategy. NCMA’s Professional Standards, now being developed in partnership with members, will set out how members can achieve the highest standards of professionalism and will be underpinned by a training and CPD pathway that supports all our members to continuously develop as professionals. Eventually the Professional Standards will be set against each of our membership categories and systems will be established to monitor member fitness to practice.
